[figure] Pinky Rin & Archer

Here are the finished resin kits of Rin and Archer in pinky style, along with the previous Saber. These two are from a different sculptor and I'm not too fond of the shape of Rin's face compared to the more rounded shape of Saber's. It just seems to me a bit too big and "normal" as if it might fit on a full sized figure instead.

Medium: airbrushed acrylics on resin. Scale: non @ 10-11cm. 6 photos, the rest embedded here:

[figure] Goth Punk Mikuru

This is one of the 100 limited edition resin kits of Griffon's Goth Punk Mikuru. For those interested, the build up for this kit is here.

I painted her in light pink to differentiate from the standard white PVC version. She also has toned down hair and eye color to more closely match the artwork the figure is based on.

Medium: airbrushed acrylics on resin. Scale: 1/7 @ 24.5cm. 16 photos in this set.

[figure] Angel Rebirth

This is the SOL Models kit of Angel Rebirth from GUNNM/Battle Angel Alita. If you're interested in how this was made, you can follow my work in progress here.

This is resin kit number 6 for me and the largest one I've tackled so far. The body contains multiple parts that are hard to make seamless given how the parts must be assembled. I don't think I want to build another kit with so much skin.. ^^;; I took a long break in between building her, but picking up the airbrush again was pretty simple. I'm glad she's finally done.

Medium: airbrushed acrylics on resin. Scale: 1/6 @ 23cm. 20 photos in this set.

[orig] Moyashimon

[ 06.22.08 ]

The line-up
I finished these today. This is my first attempt at making something out of Sculpey polymer clay. It's mostly a test to see how the material behaves through the sculpting and building phases. They're fairly simple and not even close to being "perfect", but I learned a lot about the properties of the clay to try making more complex things in the future.

I initially gave the oryzae-tans larger bases so they can stand on their own, but they're not very stable and knock over easily. So I embedded micro magnets in their bases and they happily cling to metal surfaces.

Medium: Acrylic on polymer clay (original sculpts). Non-scale @ 2.5cm tall. 3 photos.

I ended up giving all of these away and kaien got a set of three. She shares with us some photos around the house:

[figure] Satsuki Ikaruga

Here is the finished figure of Satsuki Ikaruga, from the game The Spirit of Eternity Sword 2. If you're interested in how this was made, you can follow my work in progress here.

This is my fifth completed resin kit and the first with cast-off parts. There's very little glue used in this figure and planning out how to build it, while still being able to disassemble it, was challenging. The scale is listed as 1/6, but it's closer to 1/8 - she is actually smaller than Mina Tsukishiro.

I've split the photos into two sets: a normal set (top/SFW) and a cast-off set (bottom/NSFW).

Medium: airbrushed acrylics on resin. Scale: 1/8 @ 14cm. 14 photos in this set (SFW).

WARNING: This cast-off set has artistic nudity and may not be appropriate for some viewers. 10 photos in this set (NSFW).

[figure] Yuki Nagato

I finished building Yuki this weekend and finally took pictures tonight. This is the BUBBA sculpt of Yuki with guitar from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, Live A Live episode. If you're interested in how to build this kit, you can follow my work in progress here.

I had to set up my light box again as I had stashed it away for company. I even managed to get a few shots of Haruhi and Yuki together. From those photos, I think there is definite improvement in my techniques and it went a lot faster too! And yes, Yuki is sitting on a CD!

Medium: airbrushed acrylics on resin. Scale: 1/7 @ 15.5cm. 17 photos in this set.

[figure] Haruhi Suzumiya

This is the first resin kit that I built back in December 2007. I bought a whole bunch of stuff needed to build kits, including building a spray booth, and learned how to airbrush just to put this kit together. I had recently watched Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu and this BUBBA sculpt of Haruhi with guitar from the Live A Live episode just struck me as something I wanted to try making.

It wasn't clear at the time if I would enjoy doing this hobby, and sometimes it actually felt more frustrating than not. But when it was done and I could see the results of the hard work, it made me want to pick up another kit and go. I see a lot of the premade figure collections on the web, but to me owning the figure is nothing compared to actually making one. I would highly recommend giving it a try to anyone.

You can follow the work in progress for building the guitar as well as how I did the stockings.

Medium: airbrushed acrylics on resin. Scale: 1/7 @ 27cm. 18 photos in this set.

[figure] Mina Tsukishiro

This is the second garage kit that I built, finished in January 2008. The figure is originally from the j-drama Densha Otoko, but later made into the anime Getsumen To Heiki Miina. I liked the j-drama mascot figure and painted her in similar colors - the anime colors are totally different.

Medium: airbrushed acrylics on resin. Scale: 1/8 @ 23cm. 17 photos in this set.

[figure] Pinky Saber

Here's a garage kit I just completed today - Saber from Fate/Stay Night anime series in a pinky style. The "super-deformed" style results in a big head on a small body and often used to enhance the cuteness of a character. Have a look through misaki's blog for the original sculpt and more amazing work - I love the cosplay Rin pinky!

This figure has a slightly modified pose, taken from the opening animation. Resin is fairly easy to work with and can be bent when heat is applied, which was used to bend the right arm and elbow forward, then the sword attached pointed down.

Medium: airbrushed acrylics on resin. Scale: non @ 10cm. 14 photos in this set.
